Day One

I'll admit, I struggled a bit with how I wanted to start blogging. I know the path I intend for this blog to take, and I can easily envision it, but the beginning is always difficult for me. So, I'm starting with day one. There really is no place else to start.
Everyday is a new conquest for me, and everything is some level of ordinary. Everything in my life is something someone else has experienced before, but for me it's all new; so in essence, everything is ordinary, but because I haven't done it yet, everything is a conquest.
Oddly enough, my conquest today is not so ordinary.
I'm attending a funeral. I understand funerals happen everyday, and are definitely ordinary. For me, this is the first funeral I've attended in a long, long time. The last one I went to was of a good friend's father in second grade. Then, I was almost too young to understand what the event symbolized. I know all too well now, though.
This time, he was a friend of my brother, a Marine, and a good young man lost too soon. He was a great guy, and there are so many people that will miss him. It's a military funeral, which will be the first (and God bless, the last) of this kind that I have ever witnessed. Miss you, man. [Garrett 3.11.10]
It's hard to imagine that you begin to lose people just as your life starts getting interesting.

On the other end of the spectrum:

I got the quote back from the florist for the wedding flowers, and it's exactly what my mother guessed it would be. Which isn't all that bad, in comparison to other weddings I've researched and the quality we are looking for.

Getting this kind of information brings my conflicting frugal and girly sides head-to-head. I do love the flowers, but they are just so darn expensive! This time, girly won. They're just so pretty!
Here's a peek at the style they'll resemble:

The boutonniere will be anemones with baby's breath as accent.

The bouquets will be anemones, ranunculus, and tulips (my favorite).
